Of course, there&#039;s nothing &quot;wrong&quot; with being a meat packer. It&#039;s not a job I&#039;d ever in any way want, but SOMEBODY has to do it (we&#039;re not likely to become an all-vegetarian society any time soon). I&#039;m sure the world sum total supply of optimists and chipper sorts includes at least a few of them.

Rightly or wrongly, it tends to be considered more of a &quot;it&#039;s this or my family starves&quot; job, though. Dadno is presumably supporting no one but himself, so lower-paying yet &quot;better&quot; jobs might also be open to him. At least back then, but obviously the job market&#039;s a lot different now.</description>
