You think you can get used to the numbness, but you get numb to the numbness and the pain sneaks in behind you, where you didn't expect it. Pirandello says the real tragedy of death is not that we stop thinking of those who are gone, but that they stop thinking of us. The edge of memory is broken glass, beautiful, final, unforgiving. I’ve seen more of it than I’m comfortable with, and will see more.
