		<description>I was a docent at a historic mansion once.  It was kind of fun, and the people weren&#039;t &quot;herded&quot;, although there was a kind of natural progression that most people followed through the building.  Most of the furnishings and artifacts were &quot;period&quot;, not the owner&#039;s original things.  I don&#039;t think they charged a fee, although there was a rather pointed &quot;donation&quot; box at the door.  Even with all volunteers, some things cost money to keep those places open to the public.  Haven&#039;t been to Winchester, though I get what people mean about the commercialism.  Kind of spoils the mood, I&#039;m sure.</description>
