On the other hand, the therapist is refusing to do her job, dismissing Bruno’s concerns as unimportant. (And yours.) Maybe she gets bored with mere existential crises and only wants to deal with axe murderers and child rapists? More exciting, but you know, I don’t think much of a therapist who is too shallow to deal with the mundane.

Perhaps this hits close to home. I once mentioned to one of my autistic daughter’s therapists, a psychiatrist named Joan, that I thought (comparing some of my own personality traits to my daughter’s) that I might also be on the spectrum. Without missing a beat she replied brightly, “No, you seem fine to me!” Uh huh. A completely thoughtless and offhand dismissal does not convince me.
