Well, I’ve heard conflicting opinions about whether or not sex is an actual “need” to begin with, and even today, dating doesn’t necessarily equal sex, but I’m probably overthinking it, anyway. ;-)

When I was a child, I’d sometimes see male characters in sitcoms trying to “pick up” women. Since they invariably failed (to theoretically humorous effect), it never occurred to me to wonder what they were trying to “pick up” women FOR. So I was slow at catching on from the beginning.

@Ronald, I believe she’s implying that many patrons to strip clubs are there because they are not dating (or very good at it), and thus are not having any body “needs” met, and so go there as a sort of salve or replacement of that. Not that watching stripping is anything really LIKE dating.

And yeah, it is a blanket statement, definitely overgeneralizing.

As a male reader of a male cartoonist writing Bruno, I must say it’s an interesting edgy ride. A little like doing the Blue Ridge Parkway on a Motobecane, but without the shocking roadburn.

‘Dating-inept’– well, actually, most stripclub devotees are so socially inept and inhibited that this is the only real social outlet they have, let alone with a member of the opposite sex, however paid. Women don’t have this problem since most have been pestered, or bothered, or out-and-out molested since they were twelve. This tends to focus your socialization and survival skills wonderfully.

“dating inept”? I’ve never been to a strip club but AFAIK nothing that happens in one constitutes any approximation of “dating” (not legally, anyway). There’s no form of social interaction, patrons just WATCH the strippers dance and take their clothes off, and that’s all, right? Kind of like a ballet recital, only mostly nude. ;-)

(I say “mostly” because if the dancers didn’t start out with clothes on, they wouldn’t be *strippers*, would they?)

Now that I think about it, there probably ARE places where one can watch nude ballet recitals. They just don’t get much publicity.

I wonder what Sara thinks of women who watch male strippers. Are they too probably “dating inept”?
