Having written a complete work, even if you haven&#039;t published it, even without sending it in, you are an &#039;author&#039; -- and presumed to be on your way to being rich and famous, however slowly. Your reticence about claiming the title only feeds people&#039;s respect and deference. Save for those who sniff that they, too, could be an &#039;author&#039; if they only had time for it. It&#039;s odd, to defend a title you aren&#039;t sure even applies to yourself. A kind of obscure snobbery, that fits like a twenty year-old sportsjacket.</description>
