Gina has seen the danger of becoming one's own self-parody. Bruno became her own self-parody but rationalized that it was only the way she was meant to be. Now she's contemplating having made that choice and Gina is now becoming aware that's what she's done. Illustrating, in a novel way, that there really is a difference between falling on your face and leaning too far backwards, even if there's no practical difference in the end. Which is where they are, really; life is perpetual consequence of what went before.

"What could possibly go wrong?" is a classic example of the Tempting Fate trope. Gina should know better.

Fortunately, Bruno is Genre Savvy.
