Ha! This was, I think, around when I published my first novel, of which I STILL have copies of from that first print run. :)

I have a very love-hate relationship with proofs. This is definitely a telling strip of what i feel like when proofs arrive.

I believe when I wrote/drew this strip I was still fulfilling all of my own postal orders. I recall MANY a long wait at the Portland post office I went to.

Editing is actually one of my favorite things to do. Possibly second to brainstorming really bad ideas, which I do to make myself laugh.

I think i was in the midst of editing my novel during this period. I can still feel the pain.

Who doesn’t like to view themselves as the beast everyone else is referring to?

In defense of my idiocy, I had to look up what “split infinitives” were to write this one.

Ah, Helen’s wonderful egotistic cluelessness absent-minded brilliance.

Today’s strip was written by Peter Zale from his comic “Helen, Sweetheart of the Internet.” It was the first webcomic i really found and liked (back in 1996 or so), and peter and I became friends over the years. So, it was a joy to do the crossover with him. (here’s his standard resume site)

Her last line is cruel, but I like the wit. And perhaps it’s something I used to tell myself too often. I was my own cruelest editor, and not always with helpful feedback.
