If there were jobs for “cynicism,” I would have many friends who could apply. Once upon a time I could, but although I’m in general philosophically on the cynical side, it no longer “takes most of my time” and so I’m out of practice.
I’ve never had a liking for blanket statements from the bottom or top or any direction. Not that there aren’t truths to some, but universality just rubs me oh so the wrong way.
Of course I could not resist making the clowns (well, at least 2 out of 3) educated philosophers, and snarky bastards.
I always found that if I knew mom would say no, I’d ask dad, and vice versa. A common child tactic, that few of us grow out of. :)
I can’t find my copy of book#2 to get you the translation from Russian. Will look again in the morning.
