This joke might have worked except that someone who had never heard of Pavlov’s dog probably would never have heard of Anna Pavlova. But at least I think many can relate to Bruno’s feelings here.

Meanness following meanness is never a cycle I like, but it is common, and I can’t even say i am exempt from sometimes following it. Not that I feel sorry for Clark either. I’m glad, at least, that Bruno isn’t feeling celebratory about the whole thing.
