This has been a consistently popular strip. For me, I think it was simply the first thing I thought of, “my, that might get confusing.”

This strip brings me back to the Aesop’s Fable, where the fox, not being able to reach the grapes, states that “they were probably sour anyway.”
Classic gag. Someone is going out of their way to be nice and reassure, and doesn’t realize (or at least not until it’s too late) that they’ve said wayyyy too much.
