I had just moved cross-country, my first move which put me where I didn’t know the place or hardly any of the people. I was working hard to re-create myself, and not doing a great job of shaking off the depression which seemed to have followed me.
I first saw her perform at the small club “The Iron Horse” in Northampton, right before she took off with her hit “What if God Were One Of Us?” Had a good playful blues cover feel.
But in the end, where her career went and my tastes went diverged. Ah well. :)
When I wrote this I was surrounded by a lot of voices who hated when a band “sold out.” And I can’t deny that there is often a change when a band becomes successful. But i think often people dislike things BECAUSE they’ve become popular, before giving it a fair shake.
Meh. Maybe they’re right. :)
