Oh my god, the jobs I’ve had where they wanted to track your every action for efficiency. I mean, I get it. But I also kind of despise it.
I have a bad habit, when people say they are over the hill, I like to pretend like they’re right. For laughs. But so often nobody is laughing but me. People are so weird.
The truth is I have an almost Pollyanna-esque bottomless well of belief in the capabilities of people to rise to their possibilities.
Sometimes, no matter how difficult things might be, we manage to get in a night like this. Thank goodness.
These are some of the worst kinds of conversations for me. Where you don’t realize the topic you’re going to mention casually is actually really REALLY negatively judged by the person you’re talking with. It can be a real mess.
That’s the thing about “societal standards” is that they are:
1. taught
2. learned
3. not necessarily consistent even within your society, even if they are believed (by some) to be
4. not necessarily your own
I find it interesting, when I find myself judging something, to see if there is any behavior in myself which is analogous.
