The first Wes Anderson movie I saw was “Rushmore,” and I loved it (might still be my favorite). but I was fortunate enough that shortly after, the Laurelhurst theater showed “Bottlerocket” on the big screen.
Some people like Wes Anderson’s works, and some don’t. For me, I like some more than others, but in the end: I always find them interesting. The Hollywood formulas can barely keep my attention anymore. They’re fine, and no criticism against them, but when directors break the mold, I tend to remain interested.
I had just moved cross-country, my first move which put me where I didn’t know the place or hardly any of the people. I was working hard to re-create myself, and not doing a great job of shaking off the depression which seemed to have followed me.
I first saw her perform at the small club “The Iron Horse” in Northampton, right before she took off with her hit “What if God Were One Of Us?” Had a good playful blues cover feel.
But in the end, where her career went and my tastes went diverged. Ah well. :)
When I wrote this I was surrounded by a lot of voices who hated when a band “sold out.” And I can’t deny that there is often a change when a band becomes successful. But i think often people dislike things BECAUSE they’ve become popular, before giving it a fair shake.
Meh. Maybe they’re right. :)
Yup. I did sit through Blood Simple. And, not surprisingly, it was lovely. But at times so painful to watch.
For ME, that is. But I have a pretty low tolerance for cruelty/pain/torture/gore/horror in movies.
