I think I somewhat had Bruno creating her own problems somewhat to have others comfort her and take care of her. But a lot of writing the strip was just “feeling out” the character, so I’m not sure.
This strip was simply me exploring the debate which I heard (and participated in) many times at college, does it stifle artistic creativity, or teach you how, or both, or etc etc. But like most things, the debate was more interesting to me than the answer.
I think this strip was loosely based on a conversation I heard.
Fun strip to run on Christmas. Wheeeee! ;-)
Happy holidays everybody.
I find this an interesting, unattractive, and unfortunately fairly common trait (and one I’ve, of course, even observed in myself). When people feel lousy inside, I have often seen them pick fights with others (or simply complain about other things) to be able to direct their frustrations somewhere outside of themselves. My guess is it’s a coping mechanism, to either not blame oneself, or when one is unable to identify the precise issue and erroneously finds outside problems as the only thing they CAN identify and therefore blames them.
Achht. But who knows. Maybe we’re all just cranky bastards. :)
If I recall correctly, this strip was inspired by receiving a gift, from my dad, of an article of clothing which was fine, but possibly something I wouldn’t wear very much as it wasn’t really my “style.” Just as I’m sure my dad rarely if ever wore ANY of the ties I gave for father’s day. :)
Since Bruno was acting loopy, I had her take it to the extreme.
Frankly, i like it, a short-sleeve button-up cat-print shirt. :)
This strip may have come from the fact that, although I drink sometimes and have gotten drunk on occasion, I am not a regular drinker. And there is nothing less fun than being sober around someone drunk who thinks it would be fun to do something stupid or awful.
Here again is why Donna is awesome.
The Meek Shall Inherit The Earth. It’s an interesting thing in that this philosophy is very much ingrained in our culture. Although we stray further and further from it, as we become more a culture of self-greed, it is still all over movies and everything — that being humble and thinking of others first is the only princess who will get swept up by her knight.
but it’s still a Christian construct, and also, where is the line drawn? I am a big believer in a certain level of hedonism, of truly devouring the moment and enjoying it, and also thinking of yourself as much as others.
Anyhow, just rambling. No real point.
This strip always makes me giggle. Both that she’d use a compact, simply because it kinda’ opens the way a badge would, but that Donna would then ask the VERY good question.
Back at UMass I got a really nasty letter about this one. Someone had read this strip without reading any strip before it and felt I was saying that all lesbians are into deviant S&M practices.
I actually managed to iron the whole conflict out, and later even met the woman, and it was all good.
How’s that for an undramatic story! :)
