Reading Oliver Twist is good enough to sentence ANYONE to have to come out and live a little.
Mind you, for all my smack about Dickens in Bruno, I think he’s an admiral writer.
The funny thing is, a little less than a decade later I began to suffer from vertigo. Hm.
And Bruno’s last line totally cracks me up. I have no idea why.
I think it’s difficult, especially in your teens and early twenties, to realize that the rest of the world isn’t going through what you’re going through. I think it’s RELATED to narcissism, but is actually more a product of emotions being so new and intense.
That’s “West Cemetery” in Amherst, btw, where Emily Dickenson was buried.
Bruno and Lenny’s dry patter was always a delight to write. I was very pleased with this strip in particular because everything all of them say has implications and insight into character and situation. Oh, and I find it funny. :)
It’s always a downer to interrupt someone’s blues with perspective. Also, usually particularly annoying.
I like that Bruno is forgiving of humanity… to a point.
This strip was actually inspired y the always cheerful waitress at the Classe Cafe in Amherst. Miss that place (Damn you, Brueggers!)
