Being asked out is nice, even when not romantic. It makes one feel good. I think it should happen more often.

I’m about to embark on an indefinitely long journey, moving from place to place every month, around the country, making a portable storage unit out of my car, and using airbnb.com for all my stays.
What this means, and how you can support my endeavor:
1. Little Dee Originals won’t be on sale for however long I’m on the road (your last day, February 25). So, if you want to purchase any of the archive strips, and help support the launching of my journeying, it might be a while before they’re available again.
2. Little Dee b&w collections! As you may know, I have completed the full-color Little Dee graphic novel (totally new story!) for Penguin/Dial books. It is due out this summer, at which point (according to contract) the Little Dee b&w collections, which you know and love, will have to be made unavailable. So, make sure to make purchases before this summer. And what better time than now, to help launch my travels! ;-)
3. Indiegogo Campaign! I am doing an Indiegogo campaign in exchange for artwork I’ll be doing while on the road. Want art from me? Such as watercolors, ink drawings, character sketches, and oil paintings? Go check it out. And help launch my travels!

So, this dream sequence is 64 strips long. Since they are very episodic in groups, and a little long to read over 3 months, I combined them into 12 strips (like above).
It was interesting to play with the surreal. Trying to use it as a chance to talk about her internal processing from a different angle.
And of course, today is the final day of the fundraising….

The first panel was inspired by once when I was dunked underwater when swimming in the ocean, and I breathed in water. It was a strange, spooky sensation.
In this series I tried to explore the desire both to die, but not being able to do it oneself and so simply desiring to be drained, while also being horrified by it.
Bruno and Stanley always had a complex relationship. There was always a possible dream of a happy normal life, but always on the other side of a wall. A wall neither of them were capable of climbing.
Whether it was really the case or not, this is Bruno’s perception: if one could only dig deep enough, answers would be there. Not that this kind of analysis has proven to be very effective (CBT is where it’s at).
This sequence totally weirds me out. Which was part of the point. It is disturbing the stories we hang onto, and it is an awfully difficult thing to get through.
Ha! In a way this sequence was more about me than Bruno. This strip was always about me laying out me emotions pretty bare, which was at time a challenge, and at times like an everyday thing.
This series was how she (and I) explored belief. First hearing and recognizing, choosing against but still not being able to make the voice go away, until many years and experience allowed.
Part of this I think was inspired by Dostoyevski’s “The Idiot” (I think that was the one where the kids loved him), just as much as it was inspired by “Groo” where after a hero saves the day, a band of children cheer on Groo.
But also, the kids are all somewhat her younger self, allowing her to love herself. This sequence is definitely a moment of levity.
