In at least one of my near death experiences, I recall the absolute conviction that the choice between living and dying was in my own hands. I had to actually will my heart to keep beating, my lungs to keep drawing breath. It was exhausting, and I only barely decided it was worth the effort. So I can absolutely relate to what Bruno is going through.
