When i first went to France I was SO CONFUSED. It is really disorienting to not speak the language (for me, anyways), and I really tried to capture that in the next few comics. I had taken classes and studied beforehand, but was too shy and froze up whenever I tried to use it. In the end, Bruno fared MUCH better than I.

This is what i think happened to me while on a train. Except where I managed to speak some French.
Classes do set you up for undertanding things like “the hat is on the table,” but it can be hard to extrapolate.
For me, those things WERE brave.
I found that all the French who I did meet while there were particularly nice, just for the record.
It was so strange walking down a foreign street. I was amazed in realizing how much I constantly hear snippets of others’ conversations. But there, it was all just static.
The number of fears I felt overseas were many. But in talking with SOME others, I found I wasn’t totally alone in that, which was comforting.
Being a tourist is a weird perspective when you are overly self-aware.
I remember seeing this in Clermont-Ferrand and being baffled.
While in France, I was instructed on the etiquette of doggie bags.
