Maybe that’s why Bruno remains friends with Jay. She just did something he highly disagrees with, but he can step back and see that the action has already been taken, and so he asks her how she’s doing.
At the end of the day, they can disagree, but they can still care about each other.
For the sake of my sanity and for the comfort of those with varying views on the subject, I will not be allowing comments on this week and ask you not to try commenting about it elsewhere. I hope you understand and are okay with that.
It’s funny to think that I felt the news was too much propaganda back in 1996, I fear it perhaps has gotten considerably worse.
Part of this strip was about the fact that I pretty much gave up watching television around 1990, and have never looked back. Of course, there are some excellent programs and excellent writing, but i get too consumed by it.
He is a bit cartoonier than the usual muscled guy I drew in Bruno.
I like this strip because she realizes, after her reflexive response, that she’s overreacting. I also like that he’s a tad bit snarky, but not a total jerk back, which he could have been.
This was a conversation I overheard. I’ve always felt bad hearing smack talk about people in crap jobs, because there’s not much further down you can go from a crap job. In fact, half the smack talk is probably right, which is why their at the bottom in the first place.
Bruno, of course, takes it further, and mocks the mockers. Ah, Bruno.
If you’re looking for a deep meaning in this one, I know it’s there, I simply can’t put my finger on it. But on the face, I think it’s simply a humorous juxtaposition, and says something about Bruno as well as the pain of human nature.
Oh, and this is Jakes Cafe in Northampton. I always loved getting brunch or late-night breakfast there.
There is nothing worse than having an opinion supported by opinions you think are idiotic.
“The Zebs” and their album “Blister” are entirely fictitious.
I forget how much I told my parents about me dropping out of college after two years, but I know my mom picked up on the fact that I was dropping out, and my dad didn’t. Looking back, my guess is that I could have handled that (and everything) with much more grace and sensitivity.
Not that it’s fair to ask that of ANY 21 year old.
This strip was me trying to put into words some of the feeling of conflict, of kinda wanting to tell but feeling the pressure of disappointment if one does.
My first (and one of few) attempts at parody in Bruno. Although I was more using it as a sort of story overlay. Anyhow, I rented the movie and everything, even using it as drawing reference for most of the backgrounds.
The paper reads: “Clinton, not using his brain” and “Newt (Gingrich) all policy, no heart.”
Joycelyn Elders was the US Surgeon General under Clinton. She lost her job this way (quoting Wikipedia):
“In 1994, she was invited to speak at a United Nations conference on AIDS. She was asked whether it would be appropriate to promote masturbation as a means of preventing young people from engaging in riskier forms of sexual activity, and she replied, “I think that it is part of human sexuality, and perhaps it should be taught.”
The government certainly couldn’t stand for that. Good lord, condoning masturbating?
I have never been able to let that one go. Too clearly a mark of how broken things are, and how far politics are from reality.
That’s Susan in the crystal ball saying “Bruno, Bruno, where are you? It’s susan, we’re trying to find you.” That, as well as Uncle Sam’s speech are direct quotes from the Wizard of OZ, with only the names changed.
Mumia Abu-Jamal, an American activist/journalist, was convicted and sentenced to death for killing a police officer. It is believed by many, and there is much evidence, showing that he is either innocent or was at least not shown due process.
Leonard Peltier, a Native American activist, was convisted and sentenced to two life imprisonments for shooting an FBI agent. Peltier is also considered by many to be innocent, with much evidence showing a lack of due process.
