I remember seeing this in Clermont-Ferrand and being baffled.
While in France, I was instructed on the etiquette of doggie bags.
Sticky cinnamon raison rolls were the best, and the only thing I really learned to say.
Ha! I’ve had this happen more than once, where I feel like I finally am beginning to understand something, then realize those around me have been coddling me.
I remember sitting and drawing this. A woman approached, said some complimentary word, and then asked me something. I replied (in French) that I’m sorry, but I don’t speak French. Only later did I realize that a conversationg MIGHT have happened if I had ALSO told her what language I DID speak.
While staying with a friend, I tried turning on the heat in the dark, and the heat was hot radiator heat from a heat-on-demand hot water heater (I do love those things). Anyhow, flood did happen. But boy was the floor clean afterwards.
I THINK I’m back….
I have found that often when people say they can’t do things, when given the opportunity, they will often turn it down or sabotage it. We are strange creatures, and it pleases me that any of us carve out any happiness in this strange world.
Motivation is so easily derailed.
And I loved drawing european bathrooms! :)
“Bankers and Postal Employees”? I tried looking at news the few days before this strip, but didn’t see anything. I wonder what i was talking about. That’s the funny thing when writing topical comics.
And who knew we’d live to see a day where there are about 8 different kinds of chocolate-variety butter spreads?!!!
