I’ve always been intrigued by the idea that one “finds god in a foxhole.” Having cut myself off from the 9-5 world and tried to carve out a living as a cartoonist, there are times when I could just cry because things were in such despair. God still isn’t my cup of tea, but I recognize that at those times, those are when I wish that I had any inclination towards belief.

Sometimes I really appreciate a little mindless enthusiasm in my life. Sometimes it’s a good thing to salve the dark seriousness of most days. (less these days, as I’ve said before, I’ve largely managed to work my way out of my darker depressions)
One of the problems with drinking is when everyone else gets drunk ahead of you and start behaving like nitwits, or they fall asleep. Then it can become a tad boring.
Bumping into fresh exes is the worst, especially when you’re not sure you’ve made the right choices.
Ah, Thanksgiving. Bruno, the comic, is only a week-and-a-half off! Re-runs are weird.
Ha! This was, I think, around when I published my first novel, of which I STILL have copies of from that first print run. :)
It is a sad experience to receive a book of your work in print… and then to start seeing the mistakes. All of which you had combed for a billion times, but still slipped through.
I liked this strip so much, about the spin we give to friends who are having a hard time, that I named one of the Bruno books after it.
An odd side-effect of writing humor, is one can get REALLY into the mechanics of it, and so the idea of mentioning unmentionable subjects at inappropriate times can sometimes fail to occur to one.
Not speaking about anyone in particular (cough)
