I’ve always been intrigued by the idea that one “finds god in a foxhole.” Having cut myself off from the 9-5 world and tried to carve out a living as a cartoonist, there are times when I could just cry because things were in such despair. God still isn’t my cup of tea, but I recognize that at those times, those are when I wish that I had any inclination towards belief.
You really have to be brought up in it, and have your expectations of what to ask and what to expect defined for you before you ask questions and muck it all up. Religion is less like an opiate in that sense and more like a tolerance. Whether it’s built up to keep you addicted or make you immune to attacks from your religious side depends on your viewpoint… should you be fortunate enough to attain one of your own.
