Ah, Jess and Leslie’s apartment (people in the real world). I recognized that background right away. What a lot of memories.
I consider this one of my most insightful strips EVER, and I’m still trying to understand quite what it says. Maybe BECAUSE I’m still trying to understand quite what it says.
I find that cats seem to see things a bit more black-and-white than people, and that perhaps people are a little better than cats at justifying their own behavior.
I had just visited a friend of mine when I wrote this strip, and she had been getting deeper and deeper into eastern religion/philosophy/thought. She kept talking about how she was working to simplify her life.
After that visit, I never heard from her again. My theory is that I was “simplified” out, but I’ll never know.
This is a silly little reference to Saturday Night Live’s Landshark.
(Remember, John gave this gift to Bruno. It also appeared here) I always wanted to like wearing hats more, but I never got into it. But it looked good on her, and became a nice symbol of her travels.
Honestly Cat, it wouldn’t have been too hard too accomplish that goal. Also, one of the few occasions I broke the fourth wall in the strip (usually it was with Cat).
I’ve felt this in the past when I’ve pushed people away to “figure things out,” that i don’t ever seem to figure anything out and end up missing the people I love.
Sadly, for most people I know, it’s not that everyone in the world is a jerk in the dating arena (just most), but that we bring into our lives the jerkiest jerks we can imagine.
I think it’s funny that bruno thinks she’s learned to not look back, because she hasn’t. And when I wrote it, and likely believed it myself, I hadn’t either. ;-)
