Ah, so-called anti-patriotism. Often I’ve felt it. but it’s only because those who yell in accusation feel that they own the definition.

Which reminds me of a phenomenon: Have you ever encountered a person whose screen name included the words “patriot,” “liberty,” “freedom,” “American,” or something of that sort — who WASN’T a jerk? Because I haven’t…
I have a bit of a soapbox on this point. I’m with you. I would actually take it a step further:
We are a cowardly country. Everything about our zeitgeist for the last 15 years has been about fear. Fear of economic insecurity. Fear of losing jobs. Fear of terrorists. The pioneer spirit is long lost. The risk-taking spirit and the free spirit is lost.
We’re scared.
And it’s the loud bullies who wave their flags, buy their guns and bluster with their bullying, loudmouthed jingoism that are the most afraid. They are terrified of the immigrants, the foreigners, other other religions. They don’t understand it. It scares them and they don’t want to admit it so they buy large trucks, drive too fast, add ridiculous bumper stickers and talk about people who should be killed.
It is embarassing and it is sad.
My wishful eye can see a resemblance between the dude on the left and my imperishable love, Sir Quentin Tarantino. The existence of that guy alone rehabilitates America against any thinkable wrong-doing.
Re: Eat the Babies – I have to say, I totally agree. But I’d take it a few steps further than you, even. We’ve been this way for a long, long time, not just the last 15 years. This is what happens to EVERY nation when it becomes an imperial power, and we’ve been an imperial power since 1898. It’s only in the last 15 years that a lot of people have started to wake up to the fact.
Been listening to Dan Carlin’s “Hardcore History” podcast. (www.dancarlin.com). He just finished up a series on the decline of the Roman Republic into Empire. Lots and lots of eerie similarities.
And add 2017 to this mix, it’s become surreal, to say the least.
