Lol, yes, being asked to quantify one’s knowledge can be a burdening thing, but where’s life without the drama? Think of sneaking out the back window. Do it. Take it a bit far.
On her bed-stand, she’s reading “War & Peace,” but I can’t make out the title on top (sketchbook is back in MA and the high res scan doesn’t show). Hrm.
It feels to me like it would have worked better if Bruno’s comment came after her parents’ request.
Perhaps. I definitely see your point.
The effect I think i was going for is that this is ongoing, that everything her parents say makes her want to escape back to school. By putting her line first, I think it makes their comments feel more like a continual thing than a specific thing she’s reacting to.
That said, this was written in the first year I ever did dailies in my life, 14 years ago, so I very likely would do many things differently now. :)
I understand. I guess the Bruno strip is about the characters and situations first with the humour acting in a subservient way to that. I tend to approach my own strips and cartoons a little less complicatedly. :)
With Dee, and usually with Spacetrawler, I am totally there with you on the humor angle, Steve. But “Bruno”…. well, Bruno is more a slice-of-life, often with subdued humor, or just a bit of wit or sarcasm, and sometimes even without. It was a strange project, strange strange indeed. :)
