It’s funny to think that I felt the news was too much propaganda back in 1996, I fear it perhaps has gotten considerably worse.
Part of this strip was about the fact that I pretty much gave up watching television around 1990, and have never looked back. Of course, there are some excellent programs and excellent writing, but i get too consumed by it.
I did the same thing… deep sixed the TV albeit less violently for the same two reasons. I can’t stand the 24 running commentary, oh I mean the news, and I get way to consumed once I find something I like. Can’t play video games for the same reason.
Yeah, totally the same with video games.
I remember doing something similar to my little b&w portable TV back in 1983, after a(n unintended) 13-hour marathon of MTV and bitching about how much I loathed grad school.
*sigh* College days.
I also gave up TV when I left for university, where I met and married another Teeveegan. Since then I have noticed how these publicly displayed televisions continue to circle closer. I suppose they’ve always been in bars and hospital waiting rooms, but then they started showing up in fast food places, and now I’m even seeing them in gas pumps. I mean, really? Shouldn’t I be concentrating on not spilling the flammable liquid? I promise I won’t get bored and wander away. Can I please just have some peace? Does this damned thing have an off button?
Listening/watching the Brodeo reunion was fataisntc. Although from time to time the guys seemed to almost not know what to do with the large audience, the chemistry was definitely still there. I would have liked to see Anthony up there, but at least he got involved a little bit when my friend asked him about Chuf Love, then was heckled by Robert Ashley for looking so much like Anthony.
been 15 years since i watched tv. not to say i haven’t been stuck visiting relatives with the tv on and noticed i made the right decision.
