Having a laptop really changed the game for me, especially since I made the switch to deriving all my income from my comics and freelance. On the flip side, every vacation is a bit of a work vacation. :)

Just remember to back up your work to an external drive or computer or CD or DVD or even a USB stick regularly — daily, if need be. Laptops fail about once a year. more often if you travel and use them a lot, and tend to take your data with them.
You don’t want to end up like Margot Kidder. When roles got sparse, she started writing her memoirs on an IBM PC clone. She didn’t make any backups at all. When her hard drive failed, it took eighteen months of her work into the Void. The trauma caused her to be briefly hospitalized. You don’t want to do this.
If ever in the future I’m asked to recall one of my favourite lines from Bruno, cat’s line in this comic will probably be the first one to come to mind. It’s just highly memorable for me, for some reason. I wonder what that says about me.
@Pete, I’m pretty good about it. Used to do it with a cloud service, but it became too expensive, so I now keep two backups. One on my desk and a second one I keep in a fireproof safe. Hopefully that’s enough.
@Joal, cats are so like that too! :)
