I still go back and forth on this debate in my head, in fact, i just went and saw Nadar speak about a month ago.
I just wish they’d dissolve the electoral college and go over to one-person-one-vote, and also allow people to vote for more than one candidate like in Ireland.
Keep dreaming, kid.
This exact argument is still being made, 15 years later, and it’s still not a good motivator for the vote.
Of course, in hindsight, Bush did up getting the presidency, but more because of fraud and voter theft than actually winning Florida.
Eliminating the Electoral College would open up such breathtaking fraud and out-and-out poll violence that you would not believe it. Take it from me. Or don’t; there’s a movement to make Electoral College votes reflect the votes of the Congressional districts per state, districts already gerrymandered to provide secure, reliable right-wing results for decades to come. So the Electoral College will be overturned de facto. The rest of democracy will follow in good time. After all, who said you had to vote at all?
One person, one vote. That sounds like Democracy.
We should try that someday.
@Pete So far as I know, there haven’t been any civil wars in Canada, we don’t have an electoral college. But yeah, so long as insecure electronic voting systems exist and boxes can be stolen or “lost”, nothing’s 100%.
