If Sarah Palin had made her mark before i started writing “Bruno”, I never would have been able to bring myself to use “you betcha.”
Is Susan being patronizing… not really. A tiny bit maybe. But I don’t care. I will always love Susan’s good natured personality.
“If Sarah Palin had made her mark before i started writing ‘Bruno’, I never would have been able to bring myself to use ‘you betcha.’”
On the other hand, that means that you’re letting Sarah Palin be an influence. Do you want her to have that kind of power over you? It drives me crazy when people assume when I use words like “paradigm” and “synergy” that I’m spouting biz-speak, when in fact I knew and understood those words — and used them — long before the business world warped them to their own mad uses. Yet I continue to use them, because I’ll be damned before I let those rat dastards make me stop using perfectly good words.
So flip her the birdie in your mind, and if anybody accuses you of copying her, just claim that she copied you and you’re in the process of suing for copyright violation. Or something. :)
Excellent point.
And now I’m not sure if I wouldn’t have wanted other people to think I was referring to her, or if it would be because I couldn’t say or write that phrase without thinking of her, which i really prefer not doing. :)
