Those were the days when ethnic hatred became acceptably patriotic again. You could make the argument that the sentiment has never really died since then. Even though for every American dead in the September 11 attacks, some 60,000 Middle-Easterners of various faiths and complexions have been killed in retaliation. The thirst for blood vengeance seems endless. Many eyes for an eye. Many teeth for a tooth.
@Pete In hindsight, it did become easier for some Americans (and others) back then. I was still too young to get it much.
