Depends on the publisher and his or her aims. Bob Guccione’s stance is arguable, but what do you say to Dr. Annie Sprinkle’s work? What of the torrent of romance novels, some pretty shoddy as literature, with huge all-female readerships because of their low and lusty approach to the subject matter? What of the films of Candida Royalle?
I leave the question of personal use of such alone. De gustibus non disputandem. But Elian’s wrong about edible pornography; inks used in four-could web offset printing tend to use heavy metals for pigment for their vibrancy, and they’re poisonous. Still, I suspect that if pornography had to be produced only on edible materials, using things like cake frosting for coloring, the national diabetes rate would be twice as high as it is now. I’m just sayin’.
Ha! And good point, some has had a lot of aesthetics and care put to it, I was generalizing, which is unfortunate of me.
