Ugh. When an idea wraps me up this tight, sometimes I become driven to do it, just to get it off my mind. Like jumping off a high rock into water. Just jump, then you can go home already.

I’ve checked off enough of these kinds of things from my list – and quite a few that weren’t on it – to no longer be bothered by them. I’ve also learned to distinguish between fears I need to face in order to grow, and fears that are there for a reason.
There is value to confronting fears, especially irrational ones, and doing something with them — charging into them, working with all your might to destroy them, but you have confronted a major blockage in your life and done something about it. It’s not about getting old enough to not let these things bother you; it’s dealing with them when the urge to do so is there, even when you are scared to death and don’t know what the right thing is. There is no other road to confronting the unknown and finding your capacity to deal with it. That rock must be jumped off of. You WILL have that baby. You WILL quit your job and live in the back of your van as long as it takes to make that dream happen.
There is no substitute for having the gumption to go. Whatever else you learn is incidental from having decided to do it and doing it. Leap! For your life.
