I’m sorry, but I’m not sure I understand this one.
BTW, I made another comment on the 9/10/16 strip, but I realize probably no one’s going to return to see it. I’m re-posting it here in case I accidentally said something profound OSLT. ;-) Hope that’s okay.
Well, as I’ve mentioned at an earlier strip, I’ve never been to any of these places — that’s not like a point of pride OSLT, I just don’t happen to have ever gone to one — but images of scantily clad women are thrown at us in advertisements, TV shows, and so on, they’re readily available. Images of NUDE women, significantly less so.
Except on porn sites, of course, and I do my best to avoid porn sites. This too is not any kind of moral stand factor, but I long ago learned that, aside from the fact that so many of them center around images that I don’t in fact find erotic, all of the sudden there are images hurling themselves at you (sometimes images that you would’ve paid to NOT see) and it can take actual minutes to make everything disappear and you’re more susceptible to viruses than from the average site and, well, seriously, WHO NEEDS THE GRIEF?
Plus IIRC almost all of them have black backgrounds and IMHO that is so depressing…
Years ago, when I had yet to get on the internet, I’d often hear the “moral demogogues†ranting about internet porn. To the extent that I gave the matter any thought, it was like, “Well, c’mon, it’s just nude photos, how bad can it be?†When I mentioned this years after the fact, even my mother had to laugh at that level of naivete.
Besides, most women apparently harbor nothing but contempt for men who look at porn sites, so staying away from them is win/win. ;-)
Changing of the guards. You pick up your “clothing” and the dollars people have laid down for you, and you leave. While the next woman picks her songs on the juke box.
Oh, okay, thanks. No criticism intended, but I didn’t recognize that as a jukebox.
None taken. :)
Yeah, who remembers what a jukebox looks like any more?
I have friends who are DJs at strip clubs, and they’re losing jobs and income to jukeboxes. Also not the most prestigious of jobs, but one with its own form of artistry, and they are offended by the idea that all they do is put on CDs or tracks. People not familiar with the business aren’t aware that most strippers have their own tracklists, and in-between sets there are transitions — vital to allow the patrons to order more drinks. A strip club with only a jukebox is just a joint, cheap and even more unpleasant. And losing money.
And ronald needs to get out more. He seems completely unfamiliar with the panoply of modern erotica, high and low, like B&D, softcore, hardcore, and pornography for women — once only in romance novels, now an entire galaxy of genres on the web. “Just pictures of naked women”? Listen, 1893 just called — they want their stereopticons of Little Egypt back.
Well, I *said* — or at least IMPLIED — that I realized, in retrospect, that I’d been naïve, didn’t I? I indicated at least a passing familiarity with porn sites, didn’t I? Next time, please consider reading the entire post. Sheesh.
I know about B&D (I think black leather’s more CREEPY than it is anything else, but who cares what I think?), softcore, hardcore, pornography for women, and much more; none of it particularly interests me, though. And why would I need to “get out more” to learn about that stuff, anyway? After all, they have the internet on computers now. ;-)
(either you recognize the reference or you don’t; it’s no big deal)
ADDENDUM:
Frankly, on occasion, I think I might be a bit better off if I didn’t know even as much about internet porn as I do. Too late now, though. Besides, knowledge is power and all…
A little learning is a dangerous thing ;
Drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring :
There shallow draughts intoxicate the brain,
And drinking largely sobers us again.
Fired at first sight with what the Muse imparts,
In fearless youth we tempt the heights of Arts ;
While from the bounded level of our mind
Short views we take, nor see the lengths behind,
But, more advanced, behold with strange surprise
New distant scenes of endless science rise !
So pleased at first the towering Alps we try,
Mount o’er the vales, and seem to tread the sky ;
The eternal snows appear already past,
And the first clouds and mountains seem the last ;
But those attained, we tremble to survey
The growing labours of the lengthened way ;
The increasing prospect tires our wandering eyes,
Hill peep o’er hills, and Alps on Alps arise !
–Alexander Pope, “A Little Learning”
Well, now I don’t get your point at all, but that’s okay. :-)
