It’s a defensive reaction, and it is not wrong. The two emotions that survive clinical depression are grief and rage. Neither, unleashed, is either socially acceptable nor particularly conducive to having friends when you feel better. So Bruno’s instinct here is right, I feel. And Dana and Samantha are going into a burning house with a one-inch line, hoping to make the rescue before the roof comes in.
