What does it mean that he’s wagging his tail? I’ve heard conflicting reports on what that indicates about cats. thanks.
Generally it means the cat is upset, and contemplating some physical action to relieve tension. Not necessarily an attack, but something (or someone) might get smacked, scratched, or clawed. For no good apparent reason, sometimes. This tail-swishing warning is usually called ‘thrashing.’
I had a cat who would thrash sometimes as he cuddled me at work. But he didn’t seem at all upset. It took me some time to realize that he had been raised with Labradors, and that this was one of the doggy traits he had picked up from them. He wasn’t thrashing. He was WAGGING. But he was quite exceptional; treat a cat with a thrashing tail like you would someone who just balled their fists and put an angry face on.
Yeah, I’ve heard of that happening. Raise a cat with dogs, the cat thinks it’s a dog too. And then it doesn’t want to hang around with other cats. “Ahh! A non-dog!” ;-)
