This is when you hire an editor, or at least have a friend who doesn’t owe you money read it and give you their input. And you have to realize that you may have outgrown the work in the meantime; it can’t be improved unless you do something else entirely. So leave the work where it is (works of art are not ‘finished’ so much as they are ‘abandoned’), SELL IT, and begin work on the second, better idea. Otherwise your hapless flailing in the ditch will only draw predators.
Ever thought of writing and publishing Bruno’s novel “for her”? Most people aren’t familiar enough with the strip for a “tie-in” approach to mean anything to them, but it could still be a novel supposed written by “Bruno NLN”. :-)
(that’s “No Last Name”)
@Peter, I totally agree. And back then (with my own novel) I did. Although sometimes I wish I could go back to school for fiction writing, to get some real masters in the field of editing to steer me away from my many foibles.
Oy, I just made that all about me. :)
@Ronald, Would be tempting! Right now I have three novels in various stages of writing, and a pile of large comic/graphic novel projects always looking over my shoulder. It is painful to not have more time to do everything. but if I could, I’d consider it! Or, perhaps a better use of my time, would be to draw more Bruno. It won’t happen, but it makes me smile to think of what I’d do with it if I did. :)
