Jobs that use no brain power can also be EASIER sometimes. Not always, but sometimes.
Doesn’t Lenny himself have a job like that? I forget.
There’s also the fact that jobs that use no brain power tend to be somewhat easier to GET…
The word “underachiever” makes me wonder “by whose standards?”. Not necessarily in a “smash the system” way, but more in a “this system promises things that can’t necessarily be done for everyone, so how can we fix it?”
Jobs requiring no brainpower are increasingly being replaced by automation, e.g. automatic dishwashers that the busboys can load and unload, newspaper delivery eroded by internet news, and there’s talk of reducing American fast food to ordering kiosks and automated kitchens, which only need a stocker/cleaner and a maintenance staff, expected to handle several such kiosks. So the bottom of the employment ladder is thus eaten away by machines, and the dull ones who can’t get a rung or two higher end up getting et. There is no comfortable bottom on which to laze, if there ever was.
