Ultimately the question is what do YOU want out of management — not what you EXPECT yourself to want out of management. Or expect other people to expect you to want to produce what you think they want. Rather than get tied in that knot, you’re better off asking yourself what you personally want to get out of managing. A smooth functioning team? Monthly numbers? An aura of respect, forthcoming or not? A better paycheck? Not that there’s any grading going on, but any goal that doesn’t focus on making your people better at what they need to do just gets in the way. And that can mean YOU are in your own way. Fortunately, the press of events usually simplifies the task of winnowing out the unnecessary. When the plane’s going down, nobody cares what color your parachute might have been.
It’ll be interesting to see how Bruno finds, meets, and coordinates with her objectives. They will be not nearly as strange nor as comfortable as she might have imagined them, once.
