I’m starting to wonder if Gina is keeping Bruno around so she (Gina) will have someone to feel superior to…
Not Gina’s style. I get the impression Gina was herself once rudderless and, if not drifting, then screeching from place to place like a badly-choreographed car chase. There’s another Gina in Gina’s life, who gave her the space and time to sort herself out and find order within. And without.
Gina doesn’t feel superior. She’s on the stable rock lending a hand to a swimmer in the surf. It’s rescue that drives her, not hauteur.
(blink)
“Style”? This woman forced herself into Bruno’s life and took Bruno away from all ties to her previous life. That’s a “style”? Okay.
You sometimes give the impression that virtually everyone (including you) has a better idea of what’s best for Bruno than Bruno does. I really doubt that’s how John Allison intends us to read things. But so it goes.
Bruno accepted an unorthodox rescue, even if it made her uncomfortable sometimes. Most rescues do involve saving you from your own poor self-management.
It’s more common for people (myself included at times) to say “no, no, NO! Don’t save me! Let me live in filth! Let me stay in limbo forever! I don’t deserve to be saved and changing is scarier than staying in misery! STOP TRYING TO SAVE ME!” No one ever says those exact words, but the meaning is the same.
You mean Chris Baldwin. You’re confusing “Bruno”’s creator with that of “Scary-Go-Round” and “Bobbins.” And isn’t this what the artform posits? If Bruno led a regular career-girl sort of life, would you still read it? When re-runs of “That Girl” are still available on the Web?
