Is this your character speaking, or is she just channeling your readers? ;)
Ouch! ;-)
I’m no longer even sure what Bruno’s problems are at this juncture.
It’s somewhere I get stuck with when writing, too. You’re supposed to write what you know/research, but if you’re feeling particularly “I don’t know” about anything in your life, it can inhibit writing.
On the other hand, writing can be an escape, a fantasy… but then you may end up envying your own creations. ;) You have to separate your character’s pathos from your own enough to make them separate, but they’re ultimately bits and pieces of yourself you let go and then they become more than just you if the character “works”.
Sometimes characters “write themselves”, other times it’s like trying to push a front-wheel drive car out of the snow. You spin your wheels, but usually get nowhere without an outside push.
On the other hand, I finished only a few very short stories completely, so I might be talking out of my ass… :P
