This was an actual incident someone told me (forgot who at this point). I have no idea if the person who told it to me was the person house-sitting, if they were exaggerating, if it was a huge bathroom, or what. But it was interesting to write this behavior in my protagonist, a behavior which wouldn’t even occur to me.
I always suspected that you never gave names to these bit players in the early strips. (Keeping in mind the recent discussion on naming cats, I guess that you never felt that you belonged to them.) The later strips are more fun, when a rare character appears, and I try to remember who it is and what they’re like, or a new character appears, and I look forward to getting to know them over the next few days (or years).
Not to criticise the early comics, because of course you were just starting out, but what makes Bruno Bruno is the characters, and you came up with a ton of great ones over the course of the strip.
Thanks, Toby! Yeah, I think almost all the characters in the beginning were one-off ideas, and I simply pursued he ones who seemed to have greater things to add to the comic/story. :)
