Susan is awesome, and its nice to see her giving Lenny a bit of attitude. Although playing with the double-meaning of the word “tip” is perhaps a gag I did one too many times.
Leave it to Susan (well, and Randall because he’s there) to find the thing to cheer up Bruno.
Funny to have Andrew Wyeth’s Christina’s World in the background.
I had a good friend in high-school who used to use water to relax and lose herself, would totally swim until shriveled all the time. I always thought that was lovely, even though I didn’t get the same satisfaction out of the activity, and it felt good to give that attribute to Bruno.
I always felt sorry for Susan here, because she thinks Bruno is simply going to throw the cinderblock through a window or something, and if Bruno had actually died, Susan would have never let herself live it down.
On the flip side, I always laugh when I see the bookcase in the background with the missing cinderblock.
That’s one of the great traits of Susan, even though Bruno just walked out to do this deed right under Susan’s, nose, Susan is able to stand back and just see that Bruno is hurting.
Sometimes I find that when I’m sad I need to read something sad, or see a sad movie, or hear a sad song. Doing so makes me feel fuller and perhaps less alone (although I’m not so fond of seeing others sad when I’m this way, “misery loves company” isn’t really the same thing for me in this case). Something to happy or bland just makes me feel more alienated.
Although this is less the case than it once was. I now usually put on music or read a book which is empowering or energetic, to help me get out.
I’m not sure which is better, truer, or anything. Just what I do.
When I wrote this, a friend of mine had just told me that she had been diagnosed with having a non-cancerous ovarian cyst. I wrote this strip to cheer her up.
It’s my birthday! I’m turning 5! So old!
I can tell i drew the background at my mom’s because I gave her that teardrop knick-knack holder a billion ages ago.
I remember being so tickled when I heard the expression “I think the cheese fell off your cracker long ago.” HAD to put it in a strip. :)
