Funny how in the relationships where I’ve most criticized for not sharing things have been the ones where I’ve felt the least supported and most criticized. Not that this fact absolves me, but things often play out according to play.

On the other hand, good friends don’t support friends they think are going down the wrong road. I’ve been harshly denounced because I wouldn’t give a ride to a dangerous alcoholic to pick up beer. Had to lose that friendship, there was nothing more I could do. Sean is in the same predicament, and although I don’t agree with his take on stripping, I can see his view of it and the sense that Bruno is demeaning herself, which obviously grieves him because he really likes her.
@Kona, that’s a really good point, although I think a particular nuance is important: that one stance is moral and one is an addiction/life/death/harming-self/harming/others issue and isn’t a moral issue at all (although you can make it one).
Yeah, I shouldn’t have implied an objective comparison between my case and Sean’s. We might be able to stand off to the side and say, lighten up, Sean, it’s her life, and for her it’s a positive thing, or whatever. But for him it might be every bit as serious as my alcoholic friend’s case. He might have lost another friend down a dark hole of addiction and despair which involved stripping and who knows what. I don’t know his history, how he came to associate Bruno’s “performance art” with abandonment of self-respect, but that appears to be the case. I’m not justifying either of them, but like all good stories, this one provokes thought about life and relationships.
Um…It’s hard to see where an addiction/life/death/harming-self/harming/others issue isn’t the most important kind of moral issue. Maybe what you meant was it’s not JUST a moral issue.
This one really peeved me off. I figure Sean was pretty understanding and most people aren’t ok at all about sharing their sexuality with others. Bruno seems to think it should have been this no big deal… One of her most selfish moments, right here.
