“just get over some of your hang-ups” as if it’s that easy
“[my trust in you] is waning by the moment” seems to come out of nowhere
I don’t like Stanley as much as I did before I read today’s strip.
I think he is considering inviting her into his life in a more permanent way, and that couldn’t happen if she couldn’t handle this. And “waning by the moment” may be intended as a goad for her to rise to the occasion, as he believes she can.
Stanley likes to poke at her insecurities in a way that Bruno takes as a challenge more than an insult or a reflection of what Stanley really believes.
(Admittedly, I’m sometimes too thin-skinned to always take those kind of “insults” well.)
Bruno shouldn’t play his game but of course she does because it can be easy to fall into someone else’s presumption that you don’t deserve to be treated with respect, that they know what’s good for you better than you do.
I see from the tags that Bruno and Agatha are already friends, that in fact Bruno introduced the two of them. Maybe she should ask Agatha to come over and hang out so she can watch Katalin struggle to be on her best behavior (for Agatha…presuming that’s something Katalin would want to do, that she’d want to “act better” for Agatha than for Stanley) while under Bruno’s amused observation.
