I wonder sometimes if religious folk who use expressions such as “God only knows if such-and-such will occur” think of the phrase differently than when I do.
Although, upon reflection, I think I can assume that almost EVERYONE thinks differently about their phrasing than I do.
I remember giving people crap about saying, “that damned baseball,” or things like that, when I was in high school. I’d make them explain to me just exactly how a baseball gets damned.
