This is one of those tough strips, where Bruno is frowning at her dad, but she is actually genuinely appreciative of her mother’s comment. Not sure that it reads as such. Ah well, difficulties of a single-panel strip with multiple word balloons.

Classic gag. Someone is going out of their way to be nice and reassure, and doesn’t realize (or at least not until it’s too late) that they’ve said wayyyy too much.
Sometimes you have to laugh at the stupid shit you do, because being depressed and self-criticizing just takes too much out of you.
Funny, I know a huge kernal of my novel “Loved Into Submission” was from King Lear, and I know that Jeremy was the split twin of Arthur, and that Jeremy just appeared in Bruno, which means that i had King Lear on the mind. Why that was? I’m not sure. But it’s interesting for me to look back and see those clues.
Oh and I love her line “how much further is the aiport?” :)
Bruno’s dad is a funny character to write. For the first while in the strip, he really got more and more angry and conservative, but he shows a nice depth in the later years.
I felt at SOME point I should get around to explaining her name.
Dreams are weird. This one feels a bit to literarily written than real to me, but so it goes.
I like the dancing books.
The things we lie (or don’t divulge) about to our parent, knowing full well that everyone in the conversation knows it’s untrue.
I mean… not that I do it.
That’s an interesting use of “divulge” as well. Hm. A mix of devour and indulge?
It was in high school that I first discovered how cutting ones hair can give one a feeling of new start, of new identity.
