In case she wasn’t goth enough, i drive the point home. Sigh.
Funny how “california falling into the sea” was something I think I commonly heard in New England, but out here (on the west coast, where I am now) nobody mentions it, I think because it’s simply too absurd to bother.
I have no idea why i thought Ralph Nadar would be funny here, perhaps because he was the most incongruous person I could imagine in the situation.
I missed that particular game of glow-in-the-dark golf, I think it took place in South Deerfield.
I’d forgotten that I drew a double-panel strip so early on. It’s strange as well, the background is from a photo: that’s the house I grew up in, and the body of Rick is my dad’s (I just put a different head on him). In fact, Bruno’s body might be from a photo of my friend Jess…. Â not sure.
But the sentiment had nothing to do with my dad, it was from a letter someone wrote in to the UMass Daily Collegian in response to Bruno (which was running at the time).
I’ve always been uncomfortable with making fun of people, especially when I don’t like them because I know my intentions are not objective.
It’s easy to find fault in something when it fails for you. The problem is, even when you’re right, if you don’t complain until AFTER it fails you, unfortunately, your motives are totally suspect.
Ah, Mary. A toast to you and all who got stuck in life because you were not willing to play the game.
And possibly that includes me. Not sure.
I had bumped into a peer I hadn’t seen since elementary school. He was unaware that i was on food stamps at the time.
When you live with someone who has different motives than you, they can definitely undermine your efforts.
But it helps when they can’t communicate with words because they are a cat.
It’s painful when someone you felt was a friend no longer even feigns interest.
But I suppose as we grow older, we find that although some deep friendships will last, many are fluid, and that is okay too.
Funny, how this is a character who I don’t believe ever appears again. Bruno is almost like some commenting cynical angel perched on the shoulder, nattering away.
There are some warning signs in life which scream, “take heed!”
“Can I ask you a loaded question?” is one.
Unless it is someone you very much want to ask you a loaded question. ;)
